Concern Volkswagen presented a prototype of a new hybrid car TwinDrive, established at the sixth-generation Golf platform.
The project was implemented jointly with the German Government grant of more than 10 million euros. TwinDrive differs from conventional hybrids in that it is the main engine of electric using renewable energy sources - such as solar and wind. The traditional gasoline or diesel engine performs support functions.

VW has not yet been released data on cost of new hybrids. However, the test sample traveled from Berlin to Potsdam and back (100 km), using all 2.5 liters of gasoline and 8 kWh of electricity.
In 2009 a pilot batch of 20 hybrids will be a long test drive, and in 2010-m group plans to submit the serial TwinDrive public.
